Foundation Class - The Very Hungry Caterpillars

Miss Endicott and Miss Russell and Mrs Holloway welcome you to Foundation Class.

Our class is known as The Very Hungry Caterpillars.

This term we will be exploring 3 topics - People who help us, Chinese New Year and Once upon a time ( a topic all about our favourite stories)

The children will enjoy a range of activities both inside and outside the classroom, making the best use of our great outdoor space.

I look forward to posting some of their fabulous learning in the coming weeks.

Useful things to remember

Book bags - Please bring in your child's book bag every day, this enables us to put in any school information and is a great place to store your afternoon snack.

Outdoor learning - Some mornings (weather dependent) we will be having an outdoor learning session in our brilliant outdoor space. We will still go out in a bit of rain so please bring a suitable waterproof coat to school. However children do still need to be in the correct school uniform.

PE Kits - Please remember to send your child in with a PE kit as we try to get changed every week. PE is normally on a Wednesday or Thursday.

PE kits can stay on your child's peg  they do not need to go home every week.

Afternoon Snack - You may want to pack a small healthy afternoon snack for your child, however you don't need to worry about bringing a drink to school as we always have milk and water available on our snack table.

Reading Diary and Books - We try to change books on a Monday and Thursday and encourage you to share these books with your children. They will begin with little or no words in and are an opportunity to help your child develop their excitement for reading. If you could sign the reading diary this will help us to know if a book needs changing or you need to keep it for a little longer.

Spare Clothes - We encourage you to pack a few spare clothes in your child's bag. As we know sometimes accidents do happen, we do have some spare clothes in school but your child may feel more comfortable in their own clothes.

Home Learning Pack

Remember to access your home learning pack, these activities and games will help your child consolidate all the things they have learnt in school.

Home Learning

The Foundation Stage is all about enriching experiences and I would love for you to be able to carry this on at home.

This can be done in a range of ways from super simple to a little bit more time consuming.

Here are a few ideas and handy websites as well as a list of apps we use in class.

> Go to the park - count the amount of times you can go down the slide together.

> When you are on the way home from school can you recognise any letters or sounds?

> Sing your favourite nursery rhymes ( you might learn some new ones )

> Play I-spy

>Draw a picture

> Read a story to each other

> Pick up some extra home learning from Miss Endicott (It's outside the classroom in a blue box)

Websites - Some games are tablet friendly some can be used on a desktop/laptop, they include early maths skills, literacy and phonics skills as well as promoting resilience.

All the apps we use in class have free versions that can be accessed at home. The children use these independently during choosing time

These are on our Ipads but should be available on other app stores.
