We are a "Get Ready, Keep Reading, Change Everything" School.

October 2017

We are a “Get Reading. Keep Reading. Change Everything.” school.

We use the highly successful Read Write Inc. Phonics programme to teach our children to read, write and spell. Our children do well in the phonics screening check and by Year 2, the majority are fluent readers with the best chance of success in the KS1 tests.

Ruth Miskin Training recognise us for teaching the programme with fidelity and passion – we know what it takes to make reading and writing pleasurable and rewarding for our children.

This badge recognises that we:

  • Raise standards in reading and writing for our children

  • Are all expertly trained by Ruth Miskin Training – including our headteacher Maria Anderson

  • Gain the latest programme updates through regular visits from our Ruth Miskin trainer

  • Support our most vulnerable readers with extra one-to-one teaching every day.

    Military Kids represent St Paul's

    13th June 2017

Findlay, Louisa and Katherine represented the school and the Military Kids Club at The Door of Unity Ceremony this week.  Findlay carried the HMS Heroes standard for the event and Louisa and Katherine laid a wreath on behalf of the young people of the City of Plymouth. The ceremony takes place every year to commemorate an incident, which took place in Plymouth in August 1813. The Door of Unity is positioned to the south of the church.  The Door of Unity is now a unique symbol of Anglo-American friendship.

Military Kids Club Meeting at the Council House

    Friday 10th March

Three of our Military Kids Club members, Darcie, Findlay and Maggie attended a meeting at the Council Chamber on Friday afternoon.  They met with our MPs, City Councillors and the Lord Mayor of Plymouth.  During the meeting the schools had the opportunity to ask these people key questions that were important to them.  Findlay asked the Councillors, why so many fast food outlets were being opened, when the council is promoting the 'Thrive' agenda.  This was a great question and important to us at St Paul's when we are trying to focus on healthy lifestyles and the choices we make.  Thank you to the three people who represented the school.

    Science week 2017

    13th - 17th March

Next week is Science week at St Paul's- the theme this year is all about 'Change.'  The children will be bringing home a letter outlining what we will be doing during the week.  There will be a range of exciting learning taking place throughout the week and a great deal of this is linked to food.  There are lots of opportunities for you as parents to get involved, there are cooking sessions after school.  This will be great fun so please join us.  The children will be sharing their learning on Friday at 2.45, so please come into class and celebrate this learning.

We are really excited to announce the visit of our MP Jonny Mercer to school on Friday 23rd September.  The children in years 4 and 5 will be visiting Parliament.  Following this, Jonny is going to come and meet all the pupils to talk about his job and what being an MP means.  We were very lucky to meet him last year and I know the children will really value this opportunity.

    London Experience

    September 20th and 21st 2016

On the 20th and 21st September the pupils in years 4 and 5 will be visiting London.  This visit links to the work that the school carries out on the development of Fundamental British Values.  During the visit they will have a tour and a workshop at the Houses of Parliament which will be truly enlightening for them.  While there they will have a panoramic tour of London, seeing many of the key buildings by bus together with a ride on the London Eye.  In the evening they will be whisked off the Theatre Land where they will experience the wonders of 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.'  This will be a visit that will bring their learning to life.

    Bronze Healthy Schools Quality Mark

    06th September 2016

Time to Celebrate- the school has successfully achieved the Bronze Healthy Schools Quality Mark at the end of last academic year.  This is wonderful and acknowledges the work that is in place ensuring that the health and well-being of our young people is developed in a range of ways across the school.  The school has taken a great deal of time enhancing provision for the development of the physical well-being through a range of extra-curricular activities and play leaders at lunch and play times providing a better experience.  Well done to the staff and young people on this achievement.

You will soon see the plaque proudly displayed in school.
