The end of the school year is nigh...

July 10, 2015

It is so hard to believe that we are going into the last full week of the school year.  I cannot believe I am coming to the end of my first year at St Paul’s.  Next week promises to be another busy one and a very emotional one for so many as we say Good-bye to our year 6 pupils.

Diocesan Canonical Inspection

The inspection report is just about to be finalized.  We will be able to share this with you next week.

Year 6 Residential- Minehead

The year 6 children have had an amazing time in Minehead this week on their residential.  As you are reading this they will hopefully be on their way back and not delayed by the train delays.  Their week has been full of activities ranging from archery to fencing, swimming to high ropes, circus skills to zorbing!  Evenings have been full of giant cluedo, a show, fairground and a disco.  All of the children have fully participated showing real determination when things have been really tough or even scary.  I was impressed with every single one of them and as parents you would have been so proud of your children.  Next week they will complete a report so that they can share their special moments with you.  I would like to say thank you to our team, Mrs Stevenson, Mrs Reid, Mrs Kirk and Mr Woodgates, who have given up their time to ensure that your children have had a great week.  To us, the sleep deprivation is worth it just to see the children achieving something they didn’t think was possible.  I am sure when you pick them up from the station that they will be exhausted and will sleep extremely well over the weekend.

Rugby World Cup

Some of children in year 5 went to Keyham Barton on Wednesday for a rugby tournament.  The children played 5 games against other Catholic schools, they won two games, lost two and drew the other.  They had a great time and the event ended with them holding the Webb Ellis Cup.

Leavers Day…  Thursday 16th July Year 6

Please join us for Whole School Mass on Thursday- this is our annual Leavers Mass and starts at the normal time of 9.30am.  This will be very special and we would really like all of our families and friends to share it with us.

At 11am on Thursday, the year 6 children will be performing  ‘Dick Wittington,’ I must admit I am really looking forward to seeing it, as I have heard lots of short sections but not the whole things.  The children are really excited to be doing it.

During the afternoon we will have our year 6 Leavers Awards event from 2 – 3pm, all of our year 6 families are invited to join us.

To finish the day we will be having a year 6 Barbeque at 6.30pm- fingers crossed that we have good weather so that we can enjoy this outside.  This will be a special social time for the children and their families.

Toys

Please can we remind you that children are advised not to bring toys into school.  When they bring things in with them we cannot ensure that the toys will stay safe.  As a school we would prefer children not to bring toys, as we know it causes huge distress when things are damaged or go missing.  Thank you for your support with this.

Camping: Friday 17th and Saturday 18th July

The Friends of St Paul’s are holding their annual Camping event in the school grounds next weekend.  For more details speak to Mrs Reid- join in the fun!

Ground Development

As you are all aware we secured £25 000 to support with the development of the school grounds from the North Yard Community Trust.  The developments will be starting on Monday 20th July.  We will keep you up to date on these developments.  They will be creating the structures during the last two days of term and constructing everything during the first 5 days of the holiday.  It is wonderful that this will be fully operational for the start of the new term- great start to the year!
