Welcome back, message from Mrs Anderson

January 11, 2018

Welcome back to the spring term of this school year.  I would like to wish you all a happy, healthy and a year filled with exciting opportunities.  I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas break and managed to avoid all the bugs that were around. It is always wonderful to welcome the children back and to hear about their exciting times, together with hearing how generous Father Christmas was!  Hopefully many of you were able to join us for our Whole school Epiphany Mass yesterday, this is such a special way to start the school year where we remember the real story of Christmas.

Welcome new team members

A big welcome to Mrs Price who has now officially joined the  year 5 team- she has settled in brilliantly with the other staff and children.

New parent governors…

We are delighted to be in the position to be looking to recruit two new parent governors.  In a previous newsletter I outlined what this role entails, 3 meetings per term and times where you come into school during the school day and work with other governors.  The time commitment across a long term is approximately 10 hours.  It is a hugely rewarding position and one that has a direct impact on the education of your children and the running of the school.  Please get in touch with  Mrs Anderson manderson@stpaulsplymouth.com  if you are interested by Friday 26th January or if you would like more information about the role.  If there are more than two applicants we will go to a ballot for the positions.  Please get involved we are a very friendly and welcoming team to work with and we need you in moving the school forwards further.

Feedback on the recent surveys…

In the next newsletter we will be giving you the feedback on our recent parent and pupil surveys- thank you to all of you who responded to these.  With this feedback there will be some additional questions for you to consider linked to some of the areas that we feel could be better.  As we always say, we need your ideas and thoughts on how to keep refining our practice, ensuring it meets your needs too, so please help with this.

Linked to this, a few people stated they were not sure of who was responsible for Safeguarding at the school, this is Mrs Anderson and Mrs Mullett.  If there are any safeguarding concerns these are the people that you would see or contact, emails are all on the website.

Mothering Sunday lunch for Mums and Grandmas

Save the date- we will be having our annual lunch with ‘Mums or Grandmas’ for Mothering Sunday on Friday 9th March.  More details will come out nearer the time so that you can make your bookings.  This is a wonderful time where our children can share our lunch experience with someone very special.

Space Dome Visit- Years 1 and 2

On Monday Year 1 and Year 2 experienced the ‘Space Dome’ to learn about the stars and the planets. We began by entering the Space Dome through a concealed entrance, that we all had to crawl through. On the inside it was dark and mysterious, where the children all sat beautifully. Mr M (Our space leader) turned off all the lights and used a large torch as the Sun and he taught us all about the rotation of the Earth and the planets. After Mr M turned the ceiling of the space dome into the night sky and we learnt all about the different stars; Orion’s Belt and the story of Taurus the Bull.
