Welcome back...

Message from Mrs Anderson…

Welcome back to the summer term, I cannot believe we are in the final term of the year already.  We are hoping that this will be a term filled with sunshine and wonderful learning opportunities.  As the term started with sunshine please can I urge you to ensure your children come into school with their sun tan cream on, sun hats, water bottles and coats in school every day.  It is critical that we are always prepared and keep your children safe.

Welcome...

Some of you will have noticed a new member of staff around year 1.  Cory Wilcocks has joined the school as an Apprentice TA which is superb.  He will be working in year 1 in the morning and then supporting Sport at St Paul’s during the afternoons.  He has started to settle brilliantly into the team.

Parent governor result…

We are delighted to be able to tell you the result of the recent parent governor election.  It was very tightly fought and so close at the very end. A huge thank you to the parents who put their names forward, we appreciate the time you took.  Our new parent governor is Mr Cheetham, he has Donovan in year 3 and Edison in year 1. Welcome to the governing body Mr Cheetham!

Yoga with year 3-

Last term, the children in Year 3 took part in 30 minutes of yoga every afternoon as part of a master’s project. This has included learning the different yoga poses, breathing techniques and learning to be in control of their own bodies. The children thoroughly enjoyed the yoga that they learnt and were very excited each day to work through the routine to music. The children learnt self-control and a positive attitude towards themselves.

Children’s University…

A reminder that as a school we belong to Children’s University.  If you would like your child to belong and take part in a variety of learning opportunities outside of the school day please go and see Mrs Clark.  Last week some of our children went to the annual awards ceremony at the University. These give the children additional experiences and also support in raising their aspirations.  So many of the learning destination opportunities are free but huge fun for the children. We have some great ambassadors for Children’s University at school.

Accelerated Reader…

We are delighted that in September we will have a reading programme for KS2 children called Accelerated Reader.  This is a superb programme that gives the children ‘Star’ reading quizzes. You might have heard about it from some other primary schools or secondary schools. To implement this we need to label all of our current book stock into bands, as you can appreciate this is a very time consuming task.  We were wondering if any of you would be able to support with this in the second part of the summer term. If you can please can you get in touch with me on manderson@stpaulsplymouth.com.  Your support will be greatly appreciated as we want to get this in place as soon as possible so that your children can access this superb resource.

Safeguarding…

A reminder about the morning door procedures and access into school.  We ask parents to ensure they leave their children at the main doors in the morning as they are now all able to take themselves to their classes and to organise themselves.  This is a procedure we have in place to ensure we keep the school building secure. It is essential that we know who is in the school building at all times. If you need to see a teacher this is always possible at the end of the day, the staff at the doors will pass messages to the teachers.  If you cannot see them, the office team will support with getting messages to the teachers. The other way to contact staff is through their email or Class Dojo- they are all happy for you to message them directly. Thank you for your support with this.

Sports Update…

Now the rain has finally stopped we are able to get out and enjoy the field. The Children have launched themselves fully into our range of sports clubs from dodgeball, football to cheerleading.

We have also been out and about representing our school at various events including indoor rowing and our ongoing football league. The children continue to represent our school with pride and have really tried their hardest at all these events.

London Experience 2018…

We are in the process of arranging a visit to London for our Year 4 and 5 classes in September.  This will be an amazing opportunity for the children and will be a packed two day experience. As a school we will need to book a coach/es to do this we need to know the numbers of children who will be going. The cost of the experience will be approximately £160-£180 we are looking at the last week of September or the first week of October we are just awaiting to find out which Parliament workshop we have been allocated.
