Welcome back to another school year

Message from Mrs Anderson…

It is wonderful to welcome you back to another school year at St Paul’s following a beautiful summer holiday, such a change from the previous years! It sounds like so many of you have had a wonderful time making the most of the sunny days. The first week has been superb, seeing your children start the year with such great enthusiasm. You will have received your curriculum newsletter outlining all the fun learning planned for the term ahead- if you have not had it please speak to the office staff. They have all looked super smart this week so we have reminded them that we expect this throughout the school year, with their school uniform and their PE kit!

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Mr Mudford as our year 3 class teacher, Miss Perry who is a teaching assistant in year 4 and Mrs Tozer who is with us for two days a week in her capacity as learning mentor. It is fantastic having the full team together and feeling their passion and drive to ensure your children have wonderful learning opportunities at school.

Future Newsletters…

It has come to light that some of you have been struggling to access the email version of the newsletter. As a result of this we have made the decision that we will text you letting you know that the newsletters are live, and that you will find them on the school website and on the facebook page. If you need a hard copy you can ask for one at reception.

Safeguarding at St Paul’s

All schools have to have a designated safeguarding lead and a deputy designated safeguarding lead. At St Paul’s Mrs Anderson is the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Mrs Mullett is the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. If you have any concerns in relation to safeguarding please do not hesitate to get in touch with them.

Details about clubs after school will come out next week to you, so please look out for the letter. Clubs will then begin on the week beginning Monday 17th September. Mr Potterton’s Drama club will start next week (Thursday 13th September).

Education Sunday 9th September 2018:

Don’t forget! This weekend is Education Sunday. Young people are encouraged to come to Mass in their school uniform to show the special link between the Catholic community and our schools. There will be a second collection to support the work of Catholic schools. We encourage our children to attend the mass in St Paul’s on Saturday at 5.30pm- see you then.

We are delighted to let you know that our new Parish Priest, Father Petroc Cobb has arrived. He visited school this week and will be seeing the children next week. Hopefully some of you will have met him at St Paul’s church, if not please join us for whole school mass on Thursday at 9.15am in St Paul’s.

We will also have another whole school mass on Thursday 20th September for Harvest. It would be really good if you can join us for this one too.

International Schools Award…

We are delighted to let you know that as a school we have successfully achieved the International Schools Award. This is an acknowledgement of the learning the children have carried out internationally within the curriculum. The assessors were really impressed with the work we have carried out linked to ‘Food for Thought’ and the collaboration with Uganda, together with our work with a school in Brest. The children have developed some creative illustrated books in French for younger children- these were sent to a school in Brest. If you would like to find out more about this work please get in touch.

It is hard to believe that the year 6 children are going on residential next week to Okehampton. We hope that they will have a very active, fun and exciting week where they challenge themselves.

Contact details…

In the next few days you will receive the annual personal data forms about you and your child for our school records. It is vital that these are checked and all details fully updated. As a school we are expected to have at least 2 contact numbers and people for each child. It is critical that you give us these details so we can ensure that we can contact someone in an emergency. Please can you send these back as quickly as possible so that we can update our systems.
